Description

Temple of Heaven Park is one of Beijing's most impressive historical sites, covering 205 hectares with double-layered walls separating the inner and outer compounds. The inner altar contains three main architectural complexes: the Circular Mound Altar in the south for heaven worship ceremonies, the Altar of Prayer for Good Harvests in the north, and the Fasting Palace in the west, all connected by the 360-meter-long Danbi Bridge. The park's design embodies ancient Chinese philosophical concepts of yin-yang and the five elements, with circular structures symbolizing heaven and square elements representing earth. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the park's most iconic structure - a 38-meter tall circular building with triple blue-tiled eaves and gilded top. The Circular Mound Altar features the famous Echo Wall where sound travels remarkably along its smooth curved surface. Surrounding these architectural marvels are over 6,000 trees including 3,500 ancient cypresses, creating a peaceful green oasis in central Beijing. The park offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience Ming and Qing dynasty architecture while learning about ancient Chinese cosmology and imperial sacrificial rituals. Open daily from 6:00-22:00 (with attractions open 8:00-18:00), the park provides both historical insight and beautiful green spaces for relaxation. Note that main attractions are closed on Mondays for maintenance.
