Introduction

The Old Summer Palace, also known as the Yuanming Yuan, is located in Haidian District, Beijing, China. Originally constructed in the early 18th century during the Qing Dynasty, it was one of the largest and most opulent imperial gardens in Chinese history. Comprising several palaces and gardens, it was destroyed by Anglo-French forces during the Second Opium War in 1860. Today, the site serves as a park and historical monument, offering visitors a glimpse into its once magnificent architecture through its ruins and restored areas. It is also a symbol of China's resilience and serves as a reminder of its complex history.
